Friendly Fires has done it again! They put on an excellent show at the Neptune Theatre in the University District. The energy flew out of them like projectile spears of awesomeness. The show was, just about, everything I expected, and then some. They worked together flawlessly playing some of my favorite songs, including: “Skeleton Boy,” “Lovesick,” and, “Kiss of Life.” The other songs played were like Icing on a huge triple layered dark chocolate cake with a raspberry filling. They all looked like they had a lot of fun on stage and projected quite a bit of positive energy into the crowd, and there were very few moments during the show that people were not dancing.
Ed Macfarlane, the lead singer, has some amazing dance moves and an incredible voice. Though, you could tell, for a bit, that he was getting annoyed because the Neptune Theatre does not have wireless microphones. So he had some fun with the wired mics and traveled into the crowd, making the sound manager hold the cord above the crowd so it didn’t get tangled. He was being hilarious the whole show and had a lot of fun on stage.
The drummer, Jack Savidge, had a hell of a lot of fun playing the drums with a smile on his face the whole time. Or maybe it was strain, but it seemed a little too fun to be strain. The drop-in bass player played a stand up drum set whilst playing his bass and it looked funny to see a drum stick in one hand, and his other hand playing a bass. Edd Gibson, lead guitarist, looked like he was just jammin’ on stage. He danced around the stage like a rabbit. He also managed to break a guitar and snap a string on another guitar.
They played a great show and I give them five stars for the entertainment.
