As we near the end of the semester, it’s likely that the general stress level at Nova will elevate substantially.
The fact that every day, more people have started getting sick and spreading germs, only makes matters worse.
Whenever I get sick or stressed, the things that often help most are tea and a hot bath– so it makes sense to make tea (or infuse bathwater) with things that will specifically help me by boosting my immune system, easing cold symptoms, and refreshing me so that I can focus and get some work done. Here is a list of herbs that I’ve found especially useful:
- Basil is good for immune support.
- Echinacea boosts your immune system so that you don’t get sick.
- Peppermint is a great stress reliever and refresher, and helps with headaches.
- Lavender calms you and works well with peppermint for soothing headaches.
- Rosemary is relaxing and recuperating, although can cause allergic reactions if too much is ingested.
- Thyme is great for relieving coughs.
- Lemon, Ginger, and Honey together make a good tea to relieve sore throats.
To make tea, get ahold of the herbs of your choice (available at most grocery stores), put them in a tea strainer or loose leaf tea bag (grocery stores carry the former, the latter is harder to find) and let steep (soak) in very hot water for 2-5 minutes.
To infuse your bathwater, make tea and pour it into the bath or put the herbs directly into the bath and let them soak with you (be aware that they can sometimes cause short-term stains).
I’ve found that keeping myself healthy makes credit-earning easier (and more likely). Remember to take care of yourself!
