Cher’s new “Here We Go Again Tour”

Icon Cher, is going on tour again! Not till January 17, 2019 though, but that’s not that far away! The tour will be based off her new album Dancing Queen, which is Cher covering Abba’s music (the gayest thing I have heard in awhile). Sadly she has not released any dates near the Seattle area yet. But First let’s talk a little bit about Cher and who she is.

Cherilyn Sarkisian was born May 20, 1946. She is a singer and actress. She has been described as embodying female autonomy in a male-dominated industry. Cher gained popularity in 1965 as one-half of the folk/rock husband-wife duo Sonny & Cher after their song “I Got You Babe” reached number one on the American and British charts. She began her solo career simultaneously, releasing in 1966 her first million-seller song, “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”. She became a television personality in the 1970s with her shows The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, watched by over 30 million viewers weekly during its three-year run. While working on television, Cher established herself as a solo artist with the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves”, “Half-Breed”, and “Dark Lady”. In 1982, Cher made her Broadway debut in the play Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean and starred in its film adaptation. She subsequently earned critical acclaim for her performances in films such as Silkwood (1983), Mask (1985), and Moonstruck (1987), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Cher reached a new commercial peak in 1998 with the album Believe, whose title track became the biggest-selling single of all time by a female artist in the UK. It features the pioneering use of Auto-Tune, also known as the “Cher effect”. Today Cher has a new album, and a tour (which is funny because 16 years ago she had a farewell tour.) She also just had a role in the new movie Mama Mia, Here We Go Again which inspired her to do the Abba album.

I also decided to interview a student, and a teacher from school about Cher and if they know who she is.

SH: “Do you know who Cher is?”

Student: “Yes”

Teacher: “Yes”

SH: “How would you describe Cher?”

Student: “Old, interesting, entertaining, musical, androgynous, probably queer.”

Teacher: “Iconic, tuff, funny, and real.”

SH: “Lastly, do you have a favorite song/why is that your favorite song?”

Student: “‘Believe’, because it’s in memes and vines.”

Teacher: “No, I don’t… I like The Beat Goes On but that is a Sunny & Cher song”

In conclusion, Cher is one of the most legendary/iconic people in the world. You cannot deny that. She has had a number 1 hit songs in 6 different decades. She has won an academy award. She is 72 and still touring the world in arenas, and we are still talking about her today. What you do you think about Cher?
